This was a great interview and quite cathartic! For once i bought the book mentioned in an episode (besides danny's wonderful monograph of course). The weird "cold war victor's logic" in terms of self described socialists gloating over us weapons systems is so insufferable but I guess war nerd dorks are going to be war nerd dorks even if they are socialists and this gives them the perfect way to beat off to us military tech since it's helping out the defender for once.
Re climate change- Europe's getting all their oil from India and have replaced sustainable forms of natural gas from Russia with LNG from the us that comes from fracking as well as Spain who seems to be importing that from Russia as well. Not to mention all the tanks and vehicles buzzing around as well as all the production of military tech. Europe and the US are going to need tight economic integration from China and the intense one sided trade war stated by the US will continue to undermine cooperation on climate change. There are plenty of rad libs and self described "socalists" that seem to be geared up for a fight in that regard as well. I don't understand how you can consider yourself progressive or a "leftist" and be so hawkish in terms of great power conflict.
Great topic. I have run across a couple of right wingers who were on some funded networking tours throughout Eastern and Southeastern Europe. Two stand-outs were the Ivy League alum and another player recruiting for a well known UK think tank. Generally meeting with like-minded politicans in the regions and seeking contact with outstanding and ambitious 20 somethings...Quite disingenuous characters in my estimation. Then there is Robert Rundo who was running around the region setting up the muscle for this ideology. Pretty much exactly as Von Eschen describes.
What I took away from this was, making alliance with the BJP in India will have no blowback in 20 years. I'm sure signing off on Hindu nationalism among 20 percent of the worlds people wont be that bad actually

Watched the Peacemaker when I got home from work and that movie is kind of Dogshit.
