Mohammad Alsaafin, journalist at AJ+, speaks with Danny and Derek about Israel’s imminent attack on Rafah in southern Gaza, the state of the Palestinian diaspora four months into this war, the prospect of a lasting ceasefire, and more.
Short of a larger war, say with Iran, it seems Israel won't be stopped and Gaza will be ethnically cleansed and recolonized. What happens to the west bank? Would this signal the "closing of the frontier" for Israel? Would that cause the same social problems it caused the US? There's no prospect of consecutive world wars and post war reconstruction for Israel or some equivalent to absorb that social unrest. What happens next? Danny, do you know of anyone thinking about this?
You tend to avoid domestic politics, but it could be fruitful to have a discussion on the complete uselessness of America's left in changing any of this. There are people who want to "do something," but the only somethings we seem to be capable of are useless. The left, in so far as it exists, needs to devote everything we have to understanding our failure. I'd love to hear Matt Christman's thoughts on this now more than ever.
Haven't had a chance to listen yet so not sure if it's covered in the episode, but if true this is alarming, suggests Egypt is rapidly building a large enclosure in the Sinai with 7 meter high walls to corral Palestinians in if they're pushed out of Rafah. Apparently could be complete within 10 days, suggesting there may be cooperation now between Sisi and US/Israel on this: https://x.com/Sinaifhr/status/1757818082825851371?s=20
devastating.
You guys are doing such a marvelous job, I had to upgrade to Founding.
So infuriating! Thank you again for tremendous coverage!

The plan is a Greater Israeli Reichskommisariat.
