Note: In lieu of a new public episode this week, we’re re-posting this first episode of our History of Modern Palestine series. This episode will always be publicly available, but we also are unlocking the other five for the next week. Please check them out
This was a great mini series and I’m happy you reposted it.
Couple of. (lazy?) questions:
1) Does anyone remember Rashid Khalidi mentioning something in this mini series about (paraphrasing here): the idea of the Nation State being relatively new/modern? Say, arising post 1850?
2) Further, does anyone recommend any reading about that? Sorry in advance if I missed specific notes on that point, reading callouts, etc.
At the time when I listened to that point made sometime in the mini series, it struck me as a crucial point to this entire discussion but I can’t remember which episode or the context.
3) So, if anyone remembers the episode that point was made, can you remind me of which one? I’ll just go back and listen to em all again if need be. Apologies if I’m misremembering this taking point.
